The Laboratory for Automation and Robotics (LAR) is one of the most active laboratories in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently it has a staff of 3 members of faculty, 12 researchers, 5 associates, 3 assistants and equipment that includes an industrial robot, several PLCs, a Sun Workstation and 15 PCs. More than that, the Laboratory is participating in several research programs that range from industrial projects, such as the automation of the Water distribution system in the City of Patras, to theoretical research in systems and controls.
The Laboratory is the co-ordinating node of a European wide Network of Excellence in Intelligent Control and Integrated Manufacturing System.
The main objective of the Laboratory is to utilize the power of advanced analysis and synthesis methods, such as control and systems theories, for significant practical problems that arise in industry, especially in manufacturing. This objective is realized through the use of novel approaches to automated design and analysis of systems and extensive use of informatics at every step of the design process.
